Herberger Young Scholars Academy

Project Type: Academic, Spring 2016

Professor: Michael Rotundi and Max Underwood

Role: Designer

Project Description:

Education exists beyond the built environment.

The prompt was to redefine the education system by designing a school for the students of HYSA. This project had a tinge of reality; HYSA was planning for a new facility and its students sat in on design reviews. It became clear during this process that a physical building can only take education so far. Each student is in-charge of their own learning, we can redefine the education system through an individuals perception. As an exercise, an attempt was made to change the individual perception of the prompt.

The question β€˜Is a building the solution?’ was posed to the jury. In order to properly review the question, this project is purposefully detached from reality and assembled more like art. This allows the reader to approach with individual interpretation.

Perception is Everything

Each drawing is open to the viewers interpretation. A drawing, whether technical or otherwise, is a communication tool. It is up to the creator to direct how the viewer digests it. Inspired by forces which shape the physical world, the viewing process follows suit.
